Focus on the breath is the first step to being mindful, and is an essential step in centering the mind. Here I will give a simple breathing exercise to help relieve stress, by quieting the mind.
Close your eyes and focus on your breath as you breathe normally. Pay close attention to the way your chest rises and falls as you breathe.
Now take a deep breath, inhaling until your lungs cannot hold anymore air, then hold this breath for around four to six seconds before exhaling until there is no more air in your lungs. Repeat this process two more times.
Now during your third and final breath focus on a few words as you repeat the process. As you breathe in think about inhaling confidence and positivity. As you breathe out imagine you are exhaling all fear and anxiety.
