Girls Soccer:

Carthage disappoints both Indian River and IHC on their senior nights as the Lady Comets knock in a collect six goals between the two games. First, on Monday, the Lady Comets took on Indian River on the road, and clinched the game 1-0 as Alyssa Santana found the back of the net. Next, on wednesday, Carthage traveled to IHC’s field to take on the Lady Cavaliers on their senior night. A big upset occurred as the lady comets knocked five goals into the back of the net to end the game victorious with the score of 5-2. The girls soccer team then took on Copenhagen for their own senior night, on which they tied 1-1 with the Knights. Next, the girls played one final game on home turf against IHC in the frontier league semi-finals and won 3-0, Finally, the girls fell to Watertown 4-0 to bring their season to an end.

 

Boys Soccer:

Carthage boys soccer was finally seeing some light at the end of the season after they ended their losing streak and replace it with a 5 game win streak. The boys started off the season 2-7-1 overall but quickly jumped to 7-7-1. To start the streak, the boys defeated IHC at home 4-0, then took down Indian River 6-4 with the help of two major goals from Joseph Johnston, and a first of the season goal by Ty Paddock. They responded with two more wins, one against IHC (5-1) and the second on their senior night against Central Valley Academy (3-1). In addition, the boys opened up the frontier league playoffs with a win against Indian River (5-3) in the semi-finals, but lost to Watertown in the Frontier League Championship. Finally, they lost on Wednesday to Fulton (5-2) in the first round of sectionals to end their season. 

 

Football:

Carthage and Auburn battled it out on the gridiron friday night in a Class A showdown. The Comets took hold of the game right from the start leading the Maroons 21-0 at the end of the first quarter. The boys did not back down going into the second quarter and pushed their lead to 42-7 at halftime. Running back Fombo Azah ran for 311 yards and 6 touchdowns, bringing his total to 29 touchdowns in 8 games. Carthage went on to win the game 49-17 against Auburn. This week the Comets will take on the Whitesboro Warriors in sectional semifinals at General Brown. Carthage defeated the Warriors 42-7 just two weeks ago.
